We challenge you to get involved and be active!

The Maunga Challenge promotes the Waikato, the Maungatautari Ecological Island Trust Education Facility and provides a challenge of riding around the majestic Maungatautari Mountain.

There are events for all ages and abilities.


The Maunga Challenge offers:

Maunga Cycle Challenge is in its sixth year and was held on the 13th of November 2011, with the start and finish at Albert Park Te Awamutu.

2012 promises to be a fantastic fun event for all the family

The 100k ride is around the great Maungatautari Mountain. This has spectacular scenery with topography to provide interest and variety for the riders.

A feature race the “Battle of Champions” is between teams of elite riders and rowers. On completion of the ride the athletes compete on a rowing machine and the points from the two disciplines are then added together to determine the winning team.

The School Team challenge is a new event for Years 7/8 and Years 9/10. Teams of 4 will race with two on ergs at Albert Park and the other two cycling on road. Their scores will be tallied and the winning schools will be awarded prizes.

Team Energize from Sport Waikato run the Bikes ‘n Trikes event on the day. They provide fun and challenging activities for children of all ages and abilities. This year schools are being challenged to enter the most students per role number and the winning school will win a prize.
