Battle of the Champions

This event was introduced in 2009 and Sponsored by Mighty River Power.

The feature race  “Battle of Champions,” is between a team of elite riders and a team of elite rowers. On completion of the 100km ride the athletes compete on a rowing machine and the points from the two disciplines are then added together to determine the winning team.

This race was developed from the idea that as the Waipa area is known as the Home of the Champions and as cycling is part of the rowers training programme, a race of this nature  creates a new challenge for both rowers and cyclists.

Race Information

Registration Desk opens at 8.00am

The course is the same as the 100km Open.

All participants have electronic timing.

The riders in the Battle of Champions will assemble at the front of the 100km peloton ready to start at 10.00am.

The rowing machine part of the challenge will take part at 1.30 immediately before the main prize giving.

Road rules must be observed at all times

A cash prize will be awarded to the winning team of this event.

All riders are eligible for spot prizes but not for the 100km Open cash prize.
